Standing 6 feet 8, Luke Scarff has the look and build of a basketball player, but there was a time when this South Park senior big man gave another sport a shot.

“I played soccer for one year,” he said. “But it just wasn’t my sport, so I decided to go with basketball.”

Basketball has helped the lengthy Scarff achieve some tall feats, the latest being his rise to the very top of South Park’s career scoring list.

Scarff, one of the top post players in the WPIAL, became South Park’s all-time leading scorer in last Saturday’s 84-57 win at Aquinas Academy. Scarff scored 29 points in the game to give him 1,274 in his career, breaking the record previously held by 2011 graduate Tom Bigley.
