The ice fishing season has begun here in the Bemidji area.
As always, use extreme caution when heading out. Most of the smaller lakes have 4 to 6 inches of ice, and less on the larger lakes like Bemidji. As I write this report on Monday morning, there is potential for some heavy snow moving into the area, so that could slow down the ice-making process.
Ice picks around your neck are an absolute must, as are cleats on your boots. We have a long ice fishing season here in the north country, so don’t take any chances this early season.
