CLEVELAND – A former corrections officer has been sent to prison for trying to smuggle drugs, a cell phone and SIM cards into the state prison in Trumbull County where he worked.
James P. Jackson, 40, of Cleveland was sentenced to 30 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Dan Aaron Polster after pleading guilty in July to Hobbs Act extortion for accepting money to smuggle two packages into the Trumbull Correction Institution in Leavittsburg. Jackson was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release after he is released. Polster imposed the sentence on Dec. 4.
