Sophie Kinsella has died age 55, after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer three years ago.

The Shopaholic book series writer, whose real name is Madeleine Sophie Wickham, was told she had brain cancer in 2022, with her family confirming her death in a social media post shared earlier today (December 10).

Sophie's relatives shared an image of her alongside a statement announcing the heartbreaking news.

They wrote on Instagram: "We are heartbroken to announce the passing this morning of our beloved Sophie (aka Maddy, aka Mummy).

"She died peacefully, with her final days filled with her true loves: family and music and warmth and Christmas and joy.
