A row erupted in West Bengal over the targeting of vendors selling non-vegetarian items at the Bhagavad Gita recitation event in Kolkata last week that was organised by multiple Hindu groups in the State. The videos of the assault on the vendors have gone viral on social media, triggering reactions from political parties.

A case has been registered with the Kolkata Police, however, no arrests have been made till now.

Netizens and political parties alike condemned the attack on the food vendors who were assaulted by Hindu outfits for selling non-veg puffs at the Gita recitation event at Brigade ground in the heart of Kolkata on Sunday (December 7). The event was attended by multiple Hindu groups, their leaders and prominent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders from West Bengal.
