Gordon Strachan believes Coventry City shouldn’t go after Premier League players in the January transfer window to help get them to English football’s promised land.

The Sky Blues clearly need help at the mid-term trading point as Frank Lampard’s thin-looking squad continues to be stretched by injuries and illness at the top of the Championship table. But the club face a bit of a dilemma next month in terms of the level of player they go for.

Do they, for example, recruit ready-made top-flight players to get them over the line and ensure those recruits are ready to compete next season, assuming the club are successful in gaining promotion, or do they go for top quality Championship players who may or may not be able to step up?
