British author Sophie Kinsella, whose bestselling "Confessions of a Shopaholic" novel became the basis for the 2009 romantic comedy of the same name, has died at 55, her family said.
Kinsella's family announced her death Dec. 10 on Kinsella's Instagram . The author had previously shared in a blog post in April 2024 that she was diagnosed at the end of 2022 with glioblastoma , an aggressive form of brain cancer.
"We are heartbroken to announce the passing this morning of our beloved Sophie (aka Maddy, aka Mummy)," her family wrote. "She died peacefully, with her final days filled with her true loves: family and music and warmth and Christmas and joy. We can’t imagine what life will be like without her radiance and love of life."
