The Iowa City Community School District Board of Directors welcomed a new member and said goodbye to a retiring one.
Following the Tuesday, Nov. 4 election, incumbents Ruthina Malone and Jayne Finch, and newcomer Jennifer Horn-Frasier assumed their spots on the board for the next four years.
The board also bid farewell to Shawn Eyestone, who did not run for reelection. Eyestone was appointed in 2024 to fill a vacant spot on the board, resulting from the departure of board member J.P. Claussen, who resigned to take a job with the school district. Eyestone told the Press-Citizen he didn’t plan to seek reelection.
Eyestone previously had served on the board for five years, including two as president. He resigned in 2022, with one year left on his term, to pursue a teaching career. Now
