QUEBEC — The province’s anti-corruption unit (UPAC) has opened a formal criminal investigation into fundraising allegations by the Quebec Liberal Party.

“We confirm that our verifications are finished and that we are officially opening an investigation,” UPAC spokesperson Mathieu Galarneau said in a statement.

“We will issue no further comment in order to protect as much as possible our actions and to respect the rights of the persons involved.”

It follows the police force’s statement Nov. 26 that it was looking into allegations of what it called certain “reprehensible acts” targeting the Liberal party.
