It's never fair to judge a long-term contract after year one, but Anthony Santander's debut with the Toronto Blue Jays could hardly have gone worse.

After inking a five-year, $92.5 million contract to hit in the middle of the Blue Jays order last winter, Santander put up a paltry .565 OPS in 54 regular season games, accounting for negative-1.0 bWAR. He suffered a shoulder injury that kept him out of action for most of the regular season, then was removed from the team's playoff roster with a back flare-up, which coincided with another slump.
