COLE COUNTY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Missouri State Highway Patrol is praising one of its own for “preventing a potential tragedy before it could unfold.”

Shortly before 1 a.m. on Dec. 7, Corporal Winters with MSHP Troop F in Cole County was driving west on U.S. 54.

In a probable cause statement, Winters wrote that as he approached Missouri Route C, he saw headlights coming toward him, and was soon passed by a white GMC driving east in the westbound lanes.

Winters said he turned his patrol car around into the eastbound lanes and caught up to the GMC, driving parallel with it while trying to get the driver’s attention and warn oncoming motorists. He described the driver as a woman who appeared to be in her 30s.
