Gov. Greg Abbott is looking to completely overhaul the property tax system in Texas.
Even after voters approved a round of tax breaks in November's constitutional amendment election , Abbott said during a Texas Taxpayer Empowerment Event on Thursday, Dec. 4, that he's looking to make more cuts.
"We are putting the power back where it belongs — with the people — and driving a stake through the heart of runaway appraisals, unchecked spending, and unpredictable tax hikes,” Abbott said in a news release. “With these reforms and a constitutional amendment to eliminate school district property taxes on every homestead, we will make it more affordable for Texans to stay in their homes and keep Texas the strongest economy in America.”
