A Charleston County businessman was arrested and charged with five counts of tax evasion for allegedly underreporting the total amount of sales tax collected over a five-year period, allegedly evading the payment of $199,000 to the state.
The Department of Revenue conducted the investigation leading the the Dec. 9 arrest of Gurvinder Singh, 33, the owner of Indu Vanty LLC, a liquor store and two convenience stores, according to a news release from the department on Dec. 10.
Singh is accused of underreporting his net sales from 2019 to 2023 by approximately $2 million. Singh was booked into the county jail and released on a total $100,000 bond on Dec. 9.
