BOSTON (SHNS) - As lawmakers move to strip her appointing power as part of a proposed regulatory overhaul, Treasurer Deb Goldberg says she wants the best for the Cannabis Control Commission.
The Senate and House have approved differing cannabis reform bills that remove the treasurer's appointing authority and shrink the Cannabis Control Commission from five members to three. Under the Senate's bill, two members would be appointed by the governor and one would be appointed by the attorney general. The House bill would give the governor full control over the agency.
Goldberg has appointed several CCC members since the agency was created in 2017. Notably, she appointed, suspended and then fired commission Chair Shannon O’Brien. O’Brien was reinstated to her position in October after a judge
