UTAH, USA — Experienced hiker Austin Dirks found himself in a situation many may think is an irrational fear — getting stuck in quicksand.
Dirks, a 30-year-old man from Glenwood Springs, Colorado, has extensive off trail hiking experience but hadn't ever run into such an issue before.
"Quicksand is real. I didn't believe it before today," he wrote in a Reddit post . "It does not care how experienced you are. It only cares that you stepped in the wrong place at the wrong time."
Dirks said rescuers from the Grand County Search and Rescue team encouraged him to share his story, prompting him to detail the full experience online and host a Q&A of sorts in the comments.
