A huge bridge in the UK that was once used by thousands of drivers every day is set to be demolished on Christmas Day. The Winterstoke Road Bridge in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, was originally built during the Second World War . It was used to serve aircraft factories. However, it has been closed for 18 months and will finally be demolished on Christmas Day.
The demolition will take place on Christmas Day as no trains will be running. The bridge crosses the Exeter to Bristol railway line, so demolition could not happen while trains were in operation. The demolition is part of plans to improve local infrastructure amid an increase in road users in the area. A new bridge will be built in its place, eliminating weight restrictions for larger vehicles, such as lorries and buses.
