Firefighters rescued a girl who had fallen through the ice into the frigid water of a pond in Malden, Massachusetts, on Wednesday afternoon.

It happened around 2 p.m. at Fellsmere Pond, fire officials said.

Malden Fire Captain Roy Tribble said when first responders arrived the victim was resting on the ice with her body in the water, which was about 30 feet deep. His team quickly entered the water to make the rescue.

“I don’t even think the engine stopped," Tribble said. "I jumped up, I sprinted down here, pretty much just jumped right into the water."

The firefighters had to break through the ice to reach her.
