BUCKEYE, AZ (AZFamily) — A man has been arrested after police say he struck and severely injured a pedestrian who was crossing the street in downtown Buckeye.
Ismael Martinez was arrested shortly after the collision that happened Tuesday afternoon.
Around 4:30 p.m., Buckeye police officers and fire crews responded to the area of 8th Street and Monroe Avenue and found a man with serious injuries. He was rushed to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
According to police, Martinez was making a U-turn when he hit the man, who was walking in the crosswalk.
Martinez was later booked into the Maricopa County jail for reckless driving and warrants for previous traffic violations. Investigators do not believe speed or impairment were factors in the crash.
