American Airlines has long been the largest U.S. carrier at London Heathrow Airport. It has the greatest number of slots for any non-UK airline, and the airport is its primary European hub as it coordinates schedules with British Airways, the largest airline at Heathrow, as both airlines are founding members of the oneworld alliance .
However, this is all changing, as American Airlines has canceled flight services from three different U.S. cities to London for its Summer 2026 schedule. The airline will now fly nearly 20% fewer flights to London than it did just two years ago. But why the abrupt change?
