For the past ten straight months, Canadians have made fewer trips to the U.S. than they did last year, a trend that might reverse soon. Many Canadian snowbirds are saying they still plan to visit the U.S. this winter because of friends and family .

Although they can stay up to six months without a visa, a new U.S. policy requires most visiting Canadians who remain for 30 days or longer to register with U.S. authorities. The rule is not specific to Canadians; it applies to all aliens in the U.S.

While not all Canadians are required to register under the recently updated compliance process with the U.S. Government, they should consult the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website to determine if they need to register and how to do so.
