TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - New information has been released about the suicide of the Marana father responsible for his daughter’s hot car death.

According to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office, Christopher Scholtes died on Wednesday, November 5 as a result of carbon monoxide toxicity.

Pima County Attorney Laura Conover issued a video statement after Scholtes’ death and said her office confirmed Scholtes took his own life just hours before he was supposed to turn himself in.

On Wednesday, Oct. 22, Scholtes accepted a deal to plead guilty to second-degree murder and child abuse in the death of 2-year-old Parker Scholtes. The deal held a sentence of no more than 30 years in prison.
