Farmers in Warren will likely soon get some relief from what they claim is a growing intrusive deer population after the town council, at its meeting Tuesday evening, Dec. 9, gave the first of two needed approvals to an amended ordinance allowing for seasonal hunting on property.
The vote on the changes to "Chapter 13, Offences and Miscellaneous Provisions" was unanimous, 5-0.
A second-and-final vote to approve would take place at the council's January 13, 2026 gathering.
As it stands, Warren prohibits hunting of any kind, regardless. Deer hunting in Rhode Island, per state mandate typically takes from October-January.
