Niagara police are now proactively targeting people on bail who are violating the conditions of their release orders.
On Wednesday, Niagara Regional Police said the 1 District (St. Catharines-Thorold) community response and engagement (CORE) unit launched the initiative in response to concerns raised by the community.
Starting in November, police conducted compliance checks on 10 people and found seven were in breach of their release orders.
As a result, police arrested a 41-year-old St. Catharines man, a 42-year-old Niagara Falls man and a 17-year-old whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. They were charged with failing to comply with a release order.
