A new Niagara Regional Police bail compliance initiative found 70% of suspects checked were in breach of their bail conditions.

“In a response to community concerns, the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) Community Response and Engagement Unit (CORE) has started an initiative focusing on individuals released on bail, and their compliance with conditions of their release orders,” NRPS said in a statement.

During November and December, compliance checks were performed on whether 10 individuals on bail were following the rules.

Seven of the 10 were found to be in breach of their release orders.
