LOUISVILLE, Ky. —Kentucky’s largest school district is running out of time to decide how it is going to cut $130 million from next year’s school budget. The district is facing an overall budget deficit of $188 million.
On Tuesday, Jefferson County School Board members postponed a vote on closing Zachary Taylor Elementary, Liberty Middle and High School and consolidating King Elementary. In addition, board members are asking Superintendent Brian Yearwood for an in-depth report on how such closures would affect students involved.
The district vows to cut $132 million from next year’s budget as it faces a total deficit of $188 million.
