FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Hot cocoa season may be merry and bright, but winterizing your home goes beyond twinkling lights.

"Just because something is working now, you don't want to end up in a situation where something breaks down, especially if you're hosting friends and family for the holidays," says American Home Shield Director of Acquisition, Meredith Sprecher.

From clearing vents to replacing filters, your winter to-do list may sound a little something like this.

"Changing your air filters, sealing your windows and doors and insulating any exposed pipes," Sprecher said. If you have things like in-ground sprinklers or a pool, it's important to do the winterization on those as well."
