With a wealth of experience under his belt, a long-time farmer and executive member with the Kent Federation of Agriculture is a big believer in looking forward.

Jay Cunningham was recognized as the agricultural innovator of the year in the individual category during the recent Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce rural-urban awards.

Touched by the honour, he admitted he wasn’t expecting it.

“Like they would say at the Academy awards, it was a surprise and it was just nice to be nominated,” he told The Daily News on Wednesday. “I pretty much echo the same thing … I appreciate the recognition.”

Cunningham, 62, is retired from a banking career and serves as a financial management consultant, while still farming full-time in Kent Bridge.
