OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Local chefs put their culinary skills to work preparing holiday meals for veterans experiencing homelessness at the New Visions Omaha Veterans Campus.

ConAgra Foods chefs prepared enough food to serve about 75 meals to veterans staying at the shelter. The company has been providing these meals for about 19 years, with chef Brittany Wolfe working at this location for the last eight years.

“We have pot roast, we have corn, mashed potatoes, gravy, and we also have some cheesecakes and cookies,” Wolfe said.

Rising food costs impact shelter operations

Meals like these aren’t normally on the menu at the shelter, especially with current economic conditions. Meat prices have risen significantly, affecting what shelters can afford to serve.
