Although Abbott Elementary season 5, episode 8 brings back Taraji P. Henson as Janine’s mother, Vanetta, viewers shouldn’t expect a major change in her character arc. While Abbott Elementary ’s entire cast of characters is reliably funny and lovable, the show’s guest stars are more of a mixed bag.

Performers like June Diane Raphael and Jim Rash may be consistently funny, but their characters aren’t always easy to root for. Veteran comedy stars Rash and Raphael played the district officials who tried to fire Ava in Abbott Elementary season 4 , and they were some of the show’s worst villains until that point.
