The United States will now require visitors from dozens of countries to disclose their social media history from the past five years as part of entry formalities, under a new order by the Trump administration. Reports quoted certain Indians who said they have received abrupt emails from US consulates postponing their visa appointments to next year under the new norm.

The move comes as the US anticipates a sharp rise in overseas arrivals in 2026 and 2028, when it co-hosts the men’s football World Cup with Canada and Mexico and later hosts the Los Angeles Olympics. The new condition will affect people who are eligible to visit the US for 90 days without a visa, as long as they have filled out an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) form.
