It has been seven years since the Laney girls basketball team won a conference title. The Bucs believe that drought is nearing its end.
After Saniya Rivers carried the team to a perfect conference record in 2018 , Laney has not finished higher than third in league play. Last winter, the Bucs placed fourth in the former Mideastern Conference and finished 13-12.
But while the record didn't pop, Laney was developing young talent and setting the stage for what could become a breakthrough winter against Wilmington opponents.
Freshman guards India Williams and Sophia Clayton burst onto the scene as two of the area's most promising underclassmen, while junior Katelyn Lucera missed the season due to an ACL injury. Now the Bucs are healthier, more experienced, and bolstered by additions like
