ELBERTON, Ga. (WTVM) - A 15-year-old boy has surrendered to authorities following a shooting at a northeast Georgia McDonald’s that left a 17-year-old employee dead, officials confirmed.

Police say the suspect turned himself in to the Elberton Police Department around 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, less than 24 hours after the shooting happened in the restaurant’s lobby. He will face a murder charge and other related offenses, according to police.

Authorities responded to reports of gunfire inside the McDonald’s at 300 Elbert St. shortly before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. When they arrived, police said the suspect had fled, and officers found the 17-year-old employee lying on the floor suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to Elbert Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
