West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday escalated her confrontation with the Election Commission and the BJP over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list, issuing an unusually sharp call to women to use their cooking equipment to fight it out if their names are struck off.
Speaking at a Trinamool Congress rally in Krishnanagar, Banerjee framed the SIR as a targeted political exercise, alleging that the review was being conducted selectively in Opposition-held areas.
