An Edinburgh couple say they are disappointed with the decision to keep a "colossal" hedge blocking the natural light in their garden, after their appeal to have it removed was rejected.

Last week we reported how 82-year-old Barnton resident Anne-Marie McQueen was ordered to chop down her 40ft hedge which neighbours claimed was 'ruining their lives'.

Several neighbours complained the cherry laurel and cypress leylandii trees planted around the boundary of the property starved their homes and gardens of natural light - limiting the enjoyment of their properties.

The neighbours turned to Edinburgh Council under high hedge legislation in a bid to have them cut down. However they launched a further appeal to the government after the council only agreed to have one area reduced.
