A University of Alaska Fairbanks assistant research professor pitched a concept Tuesday: Can Delta Junction transform into a grain hub to help address the state’s food security issues?
Jakir Hasan, who researches plant genetics at UAF’s Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Extension, led a discussion as part of the ongoing Circumpolar Connections series. The monthly series facilitates conversation about “building resilient and sustainable food systems due to harsh climates, remote geographies and rapidly changing environmental conditions.”
Hasan noted that Delta Junction could be the ideal location for a grain hub to help sustain some of Alaska’s needs.
