KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - Terry Eirich, an active firefighter and fire inspector for the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department and City of Kearney, died Wednesday after a battle with cancer.

In recent months, Eirich was diagnosed with a presumptive cancer known to affect firefighters at a greater rate than the general public.

KVFD and numerous other fire service organizations continue to push for state and federal legislation that will recognize presumptive cancer deaths as line-of-duty deaths. Due to this fact, Eirich’s death is being honored by the department with full fire service funeral honors.
