The Delhi Cabinet on Thursday approved a proposal to reorganise the city’s administrative structure by converting the existing 11 districts into 13 new districts.

The proposal will now be sent to Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena for implementation.

The restructuring will align the new districts with the 12 zones of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), and Delhi Cantonment Board. The number of SDM offices will increase from 33 to 39, and a mini-secretariat will be established in each district to provide most government services at a single location.

Previously, Delhi had 11 revenue districts: Central, East, New Delhi, North, North East, North West, Shahdara, South, South East, South West, and West.
