CROSS VILLAGE TOWNSHIP — Emmet County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a fatal residential fire after human remains were found inside a home following a blaze reported Sunday evening.

Per a Dec. 10 Facebook post from the sheriff’s office, the deputies were dispatched to the structure fire on Dec. 8 at approximately 6:11 p.m. Fire crews extinguished the fire, and investigators later located human remains during scene processing.

The sheriff’s office said the circumstances surrounding the death are considered suspicious and the investigation remains active.
