FRANKFORT, Ky. —

The man accused of shooting two students, one fatally, at Kentucky State University appeared in court Thursday morning.

Jacob Bard is charged with murder and assault.

Police say Bard fatally shot 19-year-old De'Jon Fox and sent another student to the hospital in critical condition Tuesday.

Bard made his first court appearance on Thursday, pleading not guilty. His attorneys argued for a reduction of his bond, but the judge set it at $1 million.

An arrest slip for Bard says he was involved in a "physical altercation" before pulling out a handgun and shooting Fox and the other victim.

His attorneys said Bard has two children who are students at KSU.

Bard's next court appearance is set for Dec. 16.
