The Cathedral City Council will choose the person to fill the rest of the term of the late Councilmember Mark Carnevale and represent District 3.
That means no special election will be held, but the post will be up for election as usual in November 2026, with the winner serving a four-year term.
Carnevale died on Nov. 16 during his third term on the city council. The city's charter requires the council to either hold a special election or appoint someone qualified to fill a vacancy that occurs before a term expired. California law requires the council make this decision within 60 days of when the vacancy occurred.
