Rep. Delia Ramirez, who represents constituents in Chicago and Cook County, Illinois, called for a House Judiciary Committee probe of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem for possible 'impeachable offenses.'

Ramirez blasted Noem, who was testifying Thursday before the House Homeland Security Committee on worldwide threats against the United States.

"You violated court orders by not turning around deportation flights bound for El Salvador, where we know that hundreds of people under your leadership have reported that they were raped, they were beaten, and they nearly died," Ramirez said. "And your agents use chemical weapons in Chicago despite court orders from District Court Judge (Sara) Ellis forbidding their use," she said.

It has been months since Noem last appeared in Congress in May. Since then, immigration enforcement operations, especially in Los Angeles and Chicago, have become increasingly contentious, with federal agents and activists frequently clashing over her department's tactics.

The secretary's appearance also comes as a federal judge is investigating whether she should face a contempt charge over flights carrying migrants to El Salvador.

"Our residents have been surveilled, they've been threatened, they've been tear gassed, they've been hit with pepper balls, they've been shot, they've been subjected to warrantless arrest and precision immobilization maneuvers. They've been kidnapped and disappeared under your leadership," she said.

"You lie with impunity, you reject checks and balances, and you ignore Congress and the courts," Ramirez said. "Your options are limited. Either you're going to resign, Trump's gonna fire you, or you will be impeached. I've already called for your resignation."
