MUSCATINE, Iowa (KWQC) - A Muscatine man is being honored by the Iowa Special Olympics Hall of Fame.
Corey Leonhard has had the opportunity to compete all over the world and has been a part of Special Olympics for more than four decades.
“When I started Special Olympics, I was in Columbus Junction, Iowa,” said Leonhard. “That’s where at Calder Elementary, and we didn’t like have a track to run around, so we had, like, run downhill to the fence.”
He’s played just about every sport from soccer, basketball, flag football, but his favorite was track and field.
“I know I wasn’t really that fast in high school but then I came in and did track and field and somehow I became good,” said Leonhard.
He’s won three gold medals including the Special Olympics World Games.
