A judge has rejected a bail application by a man who allegedly tried to kill 15 Mounties during a standoff near Fredericton in April.

Judge Lyne Raymond heard arguments Thursday about whether to grant bail to Michael Christopher Sabattis, who's facing 34 criminal charges — 15 of which are for attempted murder.

Duty counsel Gerald Pugh represented Sabattis, while Crown prosecutor Matt Oram argued against the request.

" I find that ... you do constitute a threat to the safety of the public," Raymond said after hearing from both sides.

CBC News cannot reveal the evidence presented Thursday due to a publication ban.

Sabattis appeared in Fredericton provincial court by video from the Saint John Regional Correctional Centre, where he'll remain until his jury trial scheduled for May 2027.
