CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) - A seasonal motor vehicle closure has been put in place for Sand Hills.

The closure began on Dec. 1 and will end on April 30. The habitat area is located around 20 miles north of Reno.

The closure area encompasses around 13,300 acres and was put in place to protect critical range habitat for mule deer.

Patrols of the area will be conducted to ensure compliance.

“This seasonal closure is vital for Mule Deer habitat,” said Kim Dow, Carson City District Manager. “We encourage the public to enjoy recreating on public land by finding alternate riding areas during this time.”
