FAYETTEVILLE -- The city plans to conduct a prescribed burn starting at 11 a.m. Friday at the Woolsey Wet Prairie Sanctuary.

The burn is expected to take place for around two to four hours, according to a news release from the city. The burn will take place on a 64.5-acre tract that borders Broyles Road on the west, 54th Avenue on the east and Persimmon Street on the south.

Smoke will be visible in the area during the burn, but should remain light and temporary, the release states. Fire crews and ecological specialists will be on-site throughout the process and will fully extinguish the area before leaving, according to the city. The Fayetteville and Farmington fire departments also will be notified and on standby.
