WESTFIELD — When Christopher Chambers graduated from Westfield High School in 2005, he was saluted as a star athlete and captain of the school’s swim team.
He was honored again Thursday by more than 1,100 students, teachers, staff and administrators in the school’s gymnasium — this time for sacrificing his life in defense of America.
The call went out for everyone to wear black. Nearly everyone did.
Chambers was a member of the U.S. Navy’s SEAL Team 3, killed in January 2024 when he tried to board a ship delivering illegal Iranian-made weapons to Houthi rebels in Yemen.
The Navy special warfare operator 1st class slipped and fell into rough seas off the coast of Somalia during the daring, nighttime mission. He drowned and was declared deceased and lost at sea by the Navy.
