PALATKA, Fla. — A live grenade was discovered in a Goodwill donation bin in Palatka on Thursday, according to the police department.
PPD said it responded immediately to the location on South State Road 19 after the explosive was found, evacuating the building as the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad worked to safely remove it.
The grenade was taken to a secure location and remotely detonated, according to police.
A spokesperson for Goodwill, Liz Morgan, told First Coast News that it appears to have been a donated item. She said an employee discovered it in a bin near the donation door, and that it did not make it to the retail floor.
“We are grateful the store was evacuated and everyone was safe," said Morgan.
This isn't the first time something like this has happened. M
