An 81-year-old man was arrested in connection with a shooting outside a Subway in southeastern Minnesota.

According to the Lake City Police Department, when officers responded to a report of shots fired just before 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on the 1300 block of North Lakeshore Drive, with a victim found at a nearby apartment building suffering multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers encountered a man at the scene who was "holding a handgun and refused to comply with commands."

Officers used less-lethal bean bag shotgun rounds on the man, who dropped the gun and was taken into custody and to a hospital for evaluation.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is expected to investigate officers' use of force in the incident. A 9mm handgun was recovered at the scene.
