The Bruins are getting their star defenceman back.
Charlie McAvoy has been added to Boston’s active roster, the team announced on Thursday.
McAvoy had been out since Nov. 15 when he got hit in the face with a puck against the Montreal Canadiens. He had facial surgery a few days later.
The 27-year-old Long Beach, N.Y. native has 14 assists and is goalless in 19 games this season. He is expected to be a key member of the U.S. men’s hockey team at the upcoming Milano Cortina Olympics.
The Bruins (18-13-0) have been able to hold their own without McAvoy on the blue line, winning four of their last five games and sitting in third in the Atlantic Division.
McAvoy was drafted 14th overall by Boston in 2016, and is the second-longest tenured Bruin behind David Pastrnak. He has 60 goals and 25
