ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - Schools across Virginia are receiving performance grades on how well they’re teaching students.

Wednesday night, we told you about the School Performance and Support Framework - which hopes to hold schools accountable.

And while the goal is clarity, some divisions say the new ratings have raised even more questions.

For the first time, accreditation and accountability are being separated.

Accreditation simply shows whether a school meets Virginia’s basic quality standards. Think of it as the foundation: Are programs in place? Are students getting what they need?

Accountability, under this new framework, shows how well a school is performing. So yes, a school can be fully accredited and still be rated off track or needing intensive support under this system.
